About
Dr. Rich Schultz is an Associate Professor of Geography and Geosciences at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois, and holds a Ph.D. in environmental geochemistry from the University of Cincinnati (1991), an M.S. in geology from the Wichita State University (1988) and a B.S. in geology from Illinois State University (1985). He is in his eighth year as a full-time faculty member at Elmhurst College and serves as the Coordinator of the Elmhurst College Online GIS Certificate Program. Dr. Schultz is the sole or senior author of more than sixty publications, book chapters, and abstracts. His major areas of research are: geoscience education, online/distance learning, spatial cognition, web 2.0 applications, geospatial thinking, global climate change, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the use of technology in teaching geography literacy. Dr. Schultz was the recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Teaching Award from the National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE). Dr. Schultz also received the “GIS Service Award” for geospatial education service to the Illinois GIS Association (ILGISA) in October 2009 and was the inaugural recipient of the Richard Hilton Collaboration Award from ILGISA in 2010. He serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Geography for the National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE)as well as the NCGE National Vice President for Products and Publications. He currently serves as the chair of the Geography Education Specialty Group (GESG) for the Association of American Geographers (AAG) and sits on the editorial boards for several prominent journals.
